What is a mammal? A mammal is a kind of animal. But it is not easy to define what a mammal is unless you are a zoologist and you use a lot of scientific terms.
When we visit the zoo, we will see if we can tell whether or not each animal is a mammal. We will look for answers to questions which will help us decide if an animal we are looking at is a mammal or some other kind of animal, like a bird, or a reptile, or a fish, or an insect.
Let's pretend that we are at the zoo now and we are looking at the animal in the photo we see on the activity page. Let's answer whatever questions we can answer by looking at the animal in the photo.
Every time we answer a question, clues will pop up to help us decide whether or not this animal is a mammal. If the clues pop up in a window with a red background, we will know for sure whether or not the animal we are looking at is a mammal. Are you ready to pretend we are at the zoo? Okay! Click here!
When we visit the zoo, we will take a copy of this list of questions with us to help us decide which animals are mammals and which are not.
